Harley-Davidson doesn’t release new bikes monthly; they typically unveil updates and new models at the start of each year. However, custom garages like Germany’s Thunderbike are keeping the excitement alive with frequent releases.
Their latest creation, the Radical Rider, started as a Street Bob but has undergone extensive modifications. While the specific model year of the Street Bob is not disclosed, it remains a classic Softail, a line introduced in the mid-1980s for a modern take on vintage hardtails.
Thunderbike's Radical Rider features significant upgrades. The bike now sports 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels from RevTech's Velocity line, replacing the original 19-inch front and 16-inch rear. Custom fenders support the new wheels, with the rear fender designed to accommodate a passenger seat.
The standout feature is the custom fork, reminiscent of Harley’s old Springer forks and responsible for the “Radical” name. This fork includes radial brake components for a racing feel and an air ride suspension system that adjusts the bike’s height.
The Radical Rider retains the Street Bob's original frame and engine but has received several updates, including Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde mufflers and a hydraulic clutch. The original tank has been replaced with a larger, 4-gallon one.
Additional custom elements include a bespoke handlebar with satin grips, hidden turn signals, and Rebuffini illuminated buttons. The bike’s speedometer remains the original Harley part, seamlessly integrated with the new triple tree.
With custom parts valued at around €16,700 (about $18,000), the Radical Rider's components alone exceed the cost of a new Street Bob, effectively doubling the bike’s value.
