Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy didn’t just shake up FX when it premiered in 2008; it became a cultural phenomenon. Spanning seven seasons and nearly 100 episodes, the show paved the way for the spin-off Mayans M.C., which aired from 2018 to 2023. With its powerful performances, gripping storylines, and unforgettable imagery, Sons of Anarchy also showcased some incredible motorcycles—one of which has since become one of the most iconic Harley-Davidsons in TV and film history.
At the heart of the series is Charlie Hunnam’s Jax Teller, a key member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original. Jax is the face of the show, yet his signature ride—while iconic—isn’t as widely known. From Seasons 1 through 6, Jax rides a 2003 Harley-Davidson FXD Dyna Super Glide, built on the beloved but discontinued Dyna frame. In the seventh and final season, he switches to a 1946 Harley-Davidson EL Knucklehead, his father’s bike.
Years after the Sons of Anarchy finale, at least one of these legendary motorcycles has stayed in good hands.
Charlie Hunnam kept one of Jax Teller’s Harleys Despite Hollywood’s reputation for using props, Sons of Anarchy kept things authentic, and Charlie Hunnam learned to ride both the 2003 FXD Dyna Super Glide and the 1946 Knucklehead during filming. When the series wrapped, Hunnam decided to take one of Jax’s bikes home with him. "I have one of the Sons of Anarchy bikes," he revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
However, even though he owns one of the famous Harleys, Hunnam wasn’t eager to jump back into riding right away. He shared, "I rode so hard for so long… I had a couple of close calls, and I just got this voice in the back of my head saying, ‘Take it easy for a bit.’” He took a break from riding but made it clear he has no intention of leaving the bike to collect dust: "I put about five years into riding, but I’m starting to feel the urge to get back on the bike."
Plenty of celebrities own impressive motorcycles, but few can say they’ve ridden theirs on-screen. With one of Jax’s iconic Harleys in his possession, Charlie Hunnam is sure to rack up even more miles in the future.
