Harley-Davidson EL Knucklehead
Introduced in 1936, the Harley-Davidson EL Knucklehead is one of the brand’s most influential motorcycles. It was Harley's first overhead-valve V-twin engine and aimed to outshine rival Indian. Although it faced early quality issues, the engine became popular, and its production continued until 1947. Today, the Knucklehead is highly sought after, with prices reaching six figures, such as a $190,000 sale at a Mecum auction in 2022.
Harley-Davidson Model 7D
Debuting in 1911, the Model 7D was one of the first to feature Harley’s iconic V-twin engine. Designed to be quiet and unobtrusive, it was dubbed the Silent Gray Fellow. Today, only four examples of the first-year model are known to exist. A Model 7D in good condition is valued around $167,000, with pristine examples fetching even higher.
Harley-Davidson MT500
The Harley-Davidson MT500, a licensed version of the British Armstrong MT500, was aimed at military contracts but was rendered obsolete by NATO's diesel mandate. Despite its limited production run and military focus, it remains popular among collectors. Prices for these bikes start around $15,000, with used examples often being more affordable.
Harley-Davidson Model J/JD
Originally designed for military use in 1915, the Harley-Davidson Model J evolved into the Model JD in 1925. Although it was commonly available at the time, very few examples remain. Restored models can reach nearly $100,000, while others may sell for less.
Harley-Davidson XR750
Launched in 1970, the XR750 is renowned for its racing success and as Evel Knievel's bike of choice. Early models, particularly those with racing history, are in high demand. Values can exceed $40,000, depending on condition and provenance.
Harley-Davidson Strap Tank
The 1907 Strap Tank is one of the most expensive motorcycles ever sold, fetching $935,000 at auction in 2023. With only about 450 produced and just 12 believed to remain, it’s a rare find. Even less original models command high prices, with one selling for $297,000 in 2021.
Harley-Davidson WLA
