Classic Harley-Davidson Shiny Star: Devouring Miles All Day, Every Day

Custom motorcycle projects often leave enthusiasts in awe, showcasing remarkable creativity and craftsmanship. However, it's common to see these projects created more for display or profit than for actual use. The Harley-Davidson Heritage seen here is a refreshing exception—it was designed not to gather dust but to accumulate miles.

As 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of Harley-Davidson's Softail model, this milestone has gone largely uncelebrated by the manufacturer with any special edition or anniversary model. Fortunately, custom shops like Thunderbike have stepped up to commemorate the occasion.

Thunderbike, a German custom shop established three decades ago, has introduced a new Softail-based project. This particular bike is a modified Heritage model from the current generation, known as the FLHCS. Despite its stock appearance turning heads with its classic American cruiser style, this customized Heritage has been enhanced to stand out even more.

The bike retains its essential elements but features notable customizations. The stock 16-inch spoked wheels have been upgraded to 18-inch versions, wrapped in low-profile Metzeler Cruisetec tires, maintaining maneuverability while enhancing aesthetics. Custom fenders from other Harley models—a Slim front fender and a Street Bob rear fender—emphasize the bike's unique look.

Maintaining its Heritage feel, the bike keeps the original removable windshield and bags, while the saddle has been modified by Spirit Leather to echo the classic style. Custom touches include new brake discs, Kellermann multifunction turn signals, Probrake levers and footrests, and a relocated side-mounted license plate.

The engine remains largely untouched with its 114ci unit delivering 94 hp and 119 ft-lb of torque. However, KessTech silencers have been added to provide an enhanced sound profile. The bike's custom paint job, which inspired the name "Shiny Star," completes its distinctive look.

This particular Heritage was crafted for a private customer and is not for sale. However, estimating its value involves considering the base price of $22,499 for a stock Heritage and the additional €4,000 (approximately $6,200 CAD) for custom parts and paint. With modifications, the bike's value is likely around $30,000 CAD.
