MGK joined his close friend Jelly Roll at the Harley-Davidson Homecoming in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to perform the live debut of their new single, "Lonely Road." The collaboration, released on Friday (July 26) alongside a cinematic music video featuring Megan Fox and Bunnie XO, showcases the vocalists’ struggle to support their families. Megan Fox's pregnancy in the video, along with the end credits, has sparked speculation about a real-life pregnancy with MGK, as the storyline names the baby "Violet Leika."
Their live performance of "Lonely Road" captured the chemistry from the studio recording, beginning with a playful dance. MGK expressed on stage, “This song is gonna change our lives. We are gonna perform this in stadiums one day. I love you so much for having faith in me.” Jelly Roll responded, “No matter where we perform, the first time we ever performed it was right here at the Harley-Davidson Homecoming in Milwaukee. I love you MGK, baby, my brother.”
"Lonely Road" features an interpolation of John Denver's 1971 hit "Take Me Home, Country Roads," with MGK reworking the lyrics to convey his heartbreak. This marks MGK's first original country single following his cover of Zach Bryan's "Sun to Me" in June.
After the release, MGK praised Jelly Roll's influence on his life, reflecting on their past conflicts and newfound brotherhood, stating, "Jelly, you are living, breathing badass and a kindred soul who has shown me the path of redemption...this lonely road ain’t so lonely, my friend." Jelly Roll also shared his appreciation for their friendship and MGK's growth as an artist and father, expressing, "What makes this collab so beautiful is its two guys that came from the exact same kinda place...I’ve had the honor of watching him become one of the biggest artists on earth."
As MGK continues to blend genres, his collaboration with Jelly Roll on "Lonely Road" hints at more country releases in the future, possibly including a debut country album.
