Originally equipped with a Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-twin engine, the Breakout garnered substantial stock sales while inspiring numerous custom builds.
In 2021, Harley-Davidson unexpectedly discontinued the model in the U.S., prompting doubts about its return. However, to enthusiasts' delight, a new generation Breakout was introduced last year, featuring a larger Milwaukee-Eight 117ci engine producing 101 hp at 4,750 rpm and 123 ft-lb of torque at 3,500 rpm.
Anticipated to thrive in the custom market due to its adaptable frame, the new Breakout quickly became a canvas for global customizers. In Europe, especially, where a robust community of custom shops thrives, Thunderbike stands out as a leader, regularly producing unique projects like the Midnight Rider based on the new Breakout.
Named for its predominantly black appearance with subtle orange accents, the Midnight Rider epitomizes stealth and style, blending into nocturnal surroundings with its powerful engine and customized features. While relatively straightforward compared to other Thunderbike creations, modifications included powder-coating non-black components, retrofitting LED stripe indicator lights, and enhancing the bike's aggressive stance with a new spoiler.
Additional upgrades comprised a custom fiberglass-reinforced plastic fender, redesigned fork covers, and a segmented 14-inch handlebar for enhanced control. Hydraulic adjustments were made to the clutch, complemented by a forward control kit, simplifying operation and improving comfort.
The Midnight Rider project, including parts totaling over €4,400 (approximately $4,700 USD), exemplifies Thunderbike's craftsmanship and the Breakout's enduring appeal in the custom motorcycle scene.
